When you write content, think of writing it in a way that it becomes appealing for LLM engines.
How? Most AI engines like ChatGPT or Gemini extract information in the form of chunks using RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation). They do not read entire 2000 word articles.
Here’s what happens behind the curtain.
- The AI searches the web for the most relevant information.
- It finds relevant pages and breaks the information into small “snippets” (usually 100-300 words).
- Each chunk is then separately analyzed following the searcher’s intent.
- The GPT model then creates an answer and cites the closest source.
So if your best information is buried under volumes of text, then there’s a high chance an LLM agent will pick you. Therefore, when writing answers, cut off unnecessary stuff to make it more citeworthy.
Fun Fact: Why should you slice down your content to 40-60 words exactly? You might be wondering why not 20-30 or 80-100 words? It’s because you want to keep your response short, but not too short…
If your response is too short, it can lack contextual depth and become thin. On the contrary, if it’s too long, AI might struggle to find the actual answer quickly and move to a different source.
The sweet spot is 40-60 words because it’s the exact size of a standard “citation snippet” in AI responses.
Use statistics in your content as they are high signal tokens
When discussing LLMs, words such as fast, affordable or efficient are often termed as low-signal adjectives. Most of these adjectives have been scanned by LLM technologies time and again.
On the other end, high-signal tokens such as numbers or statistics makes your content more precise and citeworthy because it gives LLM significant “grounding.” It views content as a ‘fact candidate.’
When LLM scans something like “our strategy gets real results” it will ignore it as a fluff content. Whereas, when it comes across a statement like, “our strategy increases organic traffic 215% over 6 months for SaaS clients” it will find it as concrete data from which it can extract useful information.
However, there is a bit of a caveat. When you add numbers to your content, make sure there’s something those numbers can strongly relate to, like a pain point or a central theme of the paragraph.
For example,

Fun Fact: If the statistic you mention has bold font or is listed in bullet point, it becomes easier for AI scrapers to to parse your information, that too without error.

Since LLMs are probabilistic, they predict the next best word in a sentence. When you use “hedging” language (words like maybe, perhaps, could, might) you increase the AI’s “uncertainty score.”
